BPSU reaps honors in 2nd Philippine Quill Awards

Bringing its name into the line of top colleges and universities in the country, Bataan Peninsula State University gathered four awards of excellence and two awards of merit in the 2nd Philippine Student Quill Awards. The International Association of Business Communicators-Philippines (IABC-Philippines) organized the recognition program with the awards night held on Nov. 11 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila in Quezon City.

The Guilds, the official student publication of the Main Campus, received four excellence awards for its last year’s magazine issue and article “History’s Silent Witness” entered by Dan William C. Martinez, last year’s literary folio “Kapa” by Jan Martin D. Calupitan and 2013 promotional video by Yves S. Consunji. The publication also received an award of merit for the documentary film “Pusod” entered by Camay Y. Villeroz.

CSI: Earth, an environment-oriented student organization, received award of merit for the communication campaign “CSI: Earth Adopt-a-Forest Program” entered by Dan William C. Martinez. Meanwhile, the organization already received award of excellence and award of merit for its entrees last year.

Moreover, the university was nominated for School of the Year Award for earning four excellence awards along with the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Holy Angel University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran Manila. UST grabbed the award with seven awards of excellence and the university technically placed second with four awards.

Also, The Guilds’ literary folio “Kapa” was nominated for the top award for earning the highest points along with three entrees from UST, one from University of the Philippines-Diliman and one from Holy Angel University. “Balik-Uste” communication campaign took home the top award.

The IABC Philippines claims the Student Quill Awards to be the most extensive recognition program for undergraduate college students in the communication field. The award honors students and tertiary institutions for excellent and exemplary communication works.

In joining the nationwide competition, students sent entrees composed of the work sample which is the actual communication work and the work plan which is the technical description and write-up of the communication work. Entrees were judged by top evaluators in the communication field using international standards set by International Association of Business Communicators.
