The College of Social Science and Behavioral Sciences has a new Dean

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (CSBS) was recently gained a new dean in the person of Dr. Rachel C. Reyes-Laureano.  Dr. Laureano is a registered psychologist, a registered guidance counselor, and a certified assessment psychologist.  She finished her Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education at Febias College of Bible, her MA in Counseling Psychology and her Phd in Clinical Psychology both from the Ateneo De Manila University.Her previous work experiences include being a Guidance Counselor for high school students at the Taytay United Methodist Christian School, Staff Writer at the Far East Broadcasting Company,Lecturer at the Ateneo De Manila University. She also served as the Administrative Manager, Training and Research Specialist, and Associate Professor, all at Miriam College where she stayed for thirteen years.She also served as Junior Psychologist with the Ateneo Wellness Center from 1997 to 2002, and as Psychologist for the Integrated Lifestyle and Wellness (ILAW) Center.  She has served as the Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant for Ancilla Development Enterprises on various projects.

            Dr. Laureano is married to Mr. Ariel Laureano, and has three stepchildren: Charles, Marielle, and Cyrille.  She will become a grandmother soon because Michelle who is the wife of Charles is three months pregnant.  Dr. Laureano has committed herself to ensuring that the two programs of the College, AB and BS Psychology, will be able to achieve its goals in preparing future psychologists for our country. 

New Faculty Members for CSBS

             The CSBS has several new members who will be joining its roster of teachers handling the professional subjects.  Ms. Monina Montaniel who has been the mainstay in the College continues to be in the team of faculty members.  She is currently finishing her MA in Clinical Psychology from the University of Sto. Tomas. Mr. Jayvie Villazor who has been a part-time faculty member of the CSBS is also finishing his MA in Clinical Psychology from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.  Ms. Ernalisa Mateo has also served as part time faculty for CSBS and is currently taking her MS in Developmental Psychology from De La Salle University.  Ms. Mateo also serves as Administrative Assistant in the Human Resources Division of the BPSU.  Another faculty member of the CSBS is Ms. Mylen Hualda, who is the Guidance Counselor of the BPSU Balanga Campus.  She has an MA in Guidance and Counseling from the Bataan Peninsula State University. 

             Another faculty member who has taught with the CSBS before is Ms. Icelle Soriano.   She concurrently serves as Guidance Counselor for the BPSU Main Campus.  She got her MA in Clinical Psychology from the University of Sto. Tomas and is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the same University. 

             A new member of the CSBS faculty is Ms. Khristina Anne Dimarucut who is also serving as the Chairperson for Student Affairs at the BPSU Orani Campus.  She got her MA in Education Major in School Psychology from the Philippine Normal University and she is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of the Philippines.  Another new member of the team, Dr. Perla B. Estrella, has a PhD in Guidance/Psychology from Centro Escolar University and she also happens to be the Director for Student Services of the University.  Together, these team of faculty members form the Dream Team – dreamers who have not only the vision but also the dedication and competence to bring the CSBS to new heights!

 CSBS Programs Get CHED Certificate of Compliance (COPC)

             The two programs of the CSBS recently got the Certificates of Program Compliance from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), effective AY 2015-2016. 

             Certificate of Program Compliance No. 053 states that the Bachelor of Science in Psychology program for Level I-IV of CSBS is in conformity with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known as the Higher Education Act of 1994 and by virtue of CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 38, s. 2010 “Policies and Standards for Bachelor of Science in Psychology Program.”

             Certificate of Program Compliance No. 054 states that the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program for Level I-IV of CSBS is in conformity with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known as the Higher Education Act of 1994 and by virtue of CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 38, s. 2010 “Policies and Standards for Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Program.”

             Students of CSBS can therefore be assured that their programs and their curriculum is strictly following the guidelines, policies, and standards set by CHED to ensure the quality and relevance of their education and training. 

  CSBS Building is Almost Ready for Operation

             Classes are already being held in the first floor of the new building and the offices and laboratories in the second floor are almost finished and will be ready for occupancy soon.  The CSBS thanks all the administrators and other stakeholders who contributed to see this new building rise.  Within the walls of these new building will take place the training and formation of young minds that will become the next group of young psychologists of our country.  

 CSBS Has New Program Outcomes

 In accordance with the New Policies and Guidelines for Undergraduate Programs in Psychology from CHED, the CSBS adopted the following Program Outcomes for AB and BS Psychology. 

Graduates of AB and BS Psychology must be able to:

1.      Critically discuss major theories and concepts in Psychology.

2.      Apply the methods of psychological inquiry.

3.      Apply psychological theories and methods in personal and professional settings.

4.      Demonstrate capability for independent learning in graduate education or in a professional context.

5.      Demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors in research and practice in Psychology.

6.      Relate appropriately with colleagues, clients, and others.

7.      Conduct psychological assessments and evaluations.

8.      Participate in the generation of new knowledge or in research and development projects. 

 

The CSBS also resolves to adopt the core values of the BPSU and these are:

1.      Excellence.  We commit ourselves to be the best we can be and do, by continually enhancing our skills and developing proper work attitudes, and people for the glorification of the Divine Providence.

2.      Transparency.  To help the community be aware of the programs and projects being undertaken in the University, we endeavor to make all transactions, deals, and records, or any activity open and known by all people concerned.

3.      Honesty and Integrity.  Cognizant of the principle that “The public office is a public trust” we pledge to always serve with honor and humility.

4.      Initiative.  We commit ourselves to act on our own, responsive to a given situation.

5.      Creativity and Productivity.  We shall be a dynamic, open-minded and innovative workforce, offering efficient and effective intervention to varying needs of our clientele, responsive to the changing times and circumstances, constantly challenging the status quo and ever willing to face risk and confront uncertainties. 

6.      Synergy and Community Spirit.  WE regard ourselves as a family providing one another support and inspiration in our work.  We believe in practice and teamwork. 

 

  The CSBS also revised its Program Goals in accordance with international standards set for undergraduate psychology programs.  These ten goals are as follows:

 Goal 1: Knowledge Base of Psychology:

   Students will demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts,  theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends  in psychology.

 Goal 2: Research Methods in Psychology:

   Students will understand and apply basic research methods in  psychology, including research design, data analysis, and   interpretation.

 Goal 3: Critical thinking skills in Psychology:

     Students will respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, and, when possible, the scientific approach to solve problems related to behavior and mental processes.

 Goal 4: Application of Psychology:

     Students will understand and apply psychological principles to personal, social, and organizational issues

 Goal 5: Values in Psychology:

     Students will be able to weigh evidence, tolerate ambiguity, act  ethically, and reflect other values that are the underpinnings of psychology as a discipline.

 Goal 6: Information and Technological Literacy:

 Students will demonstrate information competence and the ability  to use computers and other technology for many purposes.

 Goal 7: Communication Skills:

 Students will be able to communicate effectively in a variety of formats.

 Goal 8: Sociocultural and International Awareness:

 Students will recognize, understand, and respect the complexity of socio-cultural and international diversity. 

 Goal 9: Personal Development:

    Students will develop insight into their own and others’ behavior and mental processes and apply effective strategies for self- management and self-improvement.

 Goal 10: Career Planning and Development:

      Students will emerge from the College with realistic ideas about how to implement their psychological knowledge, skills, and   values in occupational pursuits in a variety of settings.

With these new program goals and outcomes, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences will surely move on with renewed vigor to meet new the demands of higher education in the Philippines and the profession of Psychology.
